NARI Austin Tour of Remodeled Homes, This Weekend, October 24-25

I hope you were able to make the AIA Austin Homes Tour a couple weeks ago, there were some great homes on tour!  Those Architects showed you what they can do with a blank slate, now find out what Re-modelers can do to create a fresh take on an existing home.  We will be in attendance for this event as well and hope to see you there!

nari-2009-austin-home-tourWhat: Single room to whole-house renovations costing $60,000 to $500,000
When:
Saturday & Sunday, October 24th & 25th, 12-6pm
Where: 16 homes, mostly privately owned and usually unavailable, from Georgetown to SoCo and Lakeway to Central (map)
Tickets: $5 per home or $25 for the entire tour, can be purchased at Central Market or Breed & Co. (or at any of the homes on tour)

Cick here to learn more about the tour!

When building a new home, amazing sustainable technology can be used to save the environment and monthly expenses.  Recycling an old home through renovation creates challenges but can create a home with green features that maintains a special character.  Did these contractors hit the spot?

Will you be on tour?  Did you make the AIA tour or Parade of Homes this year?  Tell us what you thought by commenting below!

Tickets can be purchased at…

Zinger Hardware
Cissi’s Market

This is a fun and unique event and will be attending myself!  This is similar to a parade of homes, only self-guided, but may be more interesting because remodels are included as well and in a variety of neighborhoods.  Most of these 14 homes are owned by private residents, so this is a special opportunity to see homes that you otherwise would not be able to access.

Hope to see you there!

In the News: The art of home design

Austin Business Journal

http://austin.bizjournals.com/austin/stories/2009/03/09/focus5.html

Featured in the Austin Business Journal after winning top Custom Home Builder honors, Debi Schoenfelt of Corias Homes, Inc. receives further recognition for her unique approach to home building, and as her daughter, I am also mentioned in the article.

At 5 feet, 4 inches – and three-quarters – Debi Schoenfelt’s soft-spoken manner belies her passion for the beautiful and artistic.

The president and director of Corias Homes — named after her two children, Corbett and Aria — Schoenfelt talks passionately about her love of all things art.

“I’ve always enjoyed art. I’ve always enjoyed architecture,” she said, yet she began with a degree in public health and wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up.

Her foray into the construction world began with her own home. Schoenfelt was compelled to help others achieve their dream and has been doing so ever since.
