Most homeowners qualify for a homestead exemption if they owned the property on January 1st and do not claim a residence homestead exemption on any other property. You may also qualify if you are older than 65 years of age, have a disability, or are a surviving spouse 55 years or older of a person who qualified for the over-65 exemption. You may be eligibly to apply late for a prior tax year if you qualified in the previous tax year but did not apply for a homestead exemption.
